Smart Office

Founded in 1354, Inselspital combines centuries of medical tradition with cutting-edge clinical excellence. Together with the Bern Rehabilitation Center and the regional hospitals in Aarberg, Belp, and Riggisberg, it forms one of the country’s largest integrated healthcare providers, offering everything from basic care to top-tier university medicine. Around 11,000 employees work across the wider Insel Group, supporting more than 850,000 outpatient consultations and approximately 55,000 inpatient treatments every year. As a major training institution, the group also plays a vital role in educating future healthcare professionals.

THE CHALLENGE

The Inselspital aimed to replace its existing individually assigned, key-operated lockers with a modern electronic system. The goal was to ensure centralized management across all locker units while maintaining seamless integration with the hospital’s existing access control system. In addition, the system needed to adapt flexibly to rotating staff members and varying shift schedules – an essential requirement for a university hospital operating around the clock.

SOLUTION

All staff lockers, valuables compartments, and key deposit boxes were modernized with Gantner’s NET.Lock system. Valuables lockers are assigned to individuals, while staff lockers operate in Free Locker mode, ensuring users can choose available spaces as needed. Automated release functions align locker availability with shift times, preventing unnecessary long-term occupancy. Team lockers equipped with the USB version of NET.Lock support shared access workflows. The entire installation is managed through the powerful eLoxx Relaxx software, which enables centralized monitoring and administration across the entire Insel Group – fully integrated, secure, and easy to operate within the hospital’s existing access control environment.

KEY BENEFITS

  • Seamless integration with the Insel Group’s existing access infrastructure
  • Centralized management for streamlined control and reduced administrative workload
  • Flexible usage models with Free Locker mode and automated time-based release
  • Increased locker availability across changing shifts and staff rotations
  • Intuitive user interaction through GT7 Info Terminals
  • Scalable, future-ready platform for upcoming hospital expansions and modernization projects
