Located in Cologne, Germany, Iron & Soul uniquely combines state-of-the-art fitness training with a well-equipped coworking space – making it one of the first of its kind in the country. Members benefit not only from a broad selection of workout classes but also from the ability to work remotely on-site with access to high-speed internet. The facility includes a dedicated training area, a separate women-only gym, saunas for both men and women, and ample parking for cars and bicycles. Its convenient location and excellent access to public transportation further enhance the user experience.

THE CHALLENGE
Before partnering with Gantner, Iron & Soul faced several operational challenges. Locker management was handled manually, requiring significant staff time, and there was no clear access control for various facility zones. This created inefficiencies, higher operating costs, and a suboptimal experience for members. Additionally, the club lacked the technical infrastructure to seamlessly integrate different user groups – such as regular members and third-party users from aggregators – into a unified system. Opportunities for increased revenue through targeted user engagement had also gone untapped.
SOLUTION
Together with Gantner, Iron & Soul implemented a fully digital solution designed to streamline operations and significantly improve the user experience. Smart access control systems, advanced locker locking technology, and intelligent management tools allowed for the automation of key processes. The focus was on reducing personnel costs through self-service options and enhancing user convenience with intuitive interfaces and heightened security. The flexible user management system now supports seamless integration of user groups, including members and one-time visitors. Digitization also opened the door to targeted upselling – such as premium access to saunas or class bookings – creating new and sustainable revenue streams.
