During a major campus expansion, the university sought a modern locker system that would minimize administrative effort while improving user experience and security.

THE CHALLENGE
WU Wien needed a smart locker solution that could be seamlessly integrated with its existing student ID card system. Traditional combination locks were time-consuming to manage, costly to maintain, and offered limited security. The university aimed to introduce a modern, automated system that would simplify locker administration while enhancing safety and convenience.
SOLUTION
Gantner implemented a fully networked locking system that enables contactless locker access using existing NFC-enabled student and staff ID cards. About 90% of the lockers operate in free-locker mode, giving users flexibility to select any available locker, while others can be assigned permanently. LED indicators and acoustic feedback provide intuitive operation, while a centralized management platform (GAT Relaxx) ensures easy monitoring, security alerts, and seamless data synchronization with the campus management software.
